Hi, I badly wanna flair. Where i'm from no-one even knows what flairing is let alone how to do it. Its so bad i'm having trouble buying a bar-blade which isnt off the net. I can do minor flips and stalls but thats about my limit at the moment. I am looking to buy a dvd to help me along, however i want the bare basics which will take me from very basic to linking a few moves. Is there a site which has a few illustrated moves just to get me started???

Flair resources on the net are really scarce, I mean its difficult to find anything that shows you how to do things on the net. Any video clip is prob above your level (no offence), as they will be showing competition clips. See www.roadhouse.co.uk/flair for example. See also ShakerUK's site
I would recommend getting some DVD's or videos though. If you want step by step on the basics then the extremebartending working flair series is for you!
Also try and see some flair in action - like try go to a local TGI - I think your nearest is in Teeside.
Barblade's - getting hold of these in a shop in the UK is very rare - I've never seen one on sale except in the Roadhouse as merchandise and it was v expensive.
My first blade was from www.bargizmos.co.uk and then I got a vinyl dipped one from www.drinkstuff.com - these are slightly more expensive than they're worth but at least you can get one. Otherwise - you should be able to get these trade from the same people who supply your bar with other things like glasses.
If you wanna order a bunch of stuff, then go to barproducts.com as there blades are like a dollar and with the current exchange rate you can't go worng. Just make sure you order enough to justify the postage. Also try and get some flair bottles - these are really invaluable and you don't realise it until you get one!

| Is it possible to get the extreme dvds seperate rather then get them in bulk as a series?or is it better to just get the lot all at once? And whats better about a vinyl coated barblade to a standard one? |

Good question.
There are 4 DVDs to choose from.
1. Working Flair
2. Competition Flair
3. Teamwork/Tandem Flair
4. How to be the Life of the Party
Each contains the series of videos, on 2 DVDs.
The reason is simply because more information can be stored on DVDs than videos. It's a better value for you having the series on DVD than buying the series on Video. So to buy one seperate video and not a series, you have to buy it on Video and not on DVD.
The benefit to having the whole lot is that you get the best price and you get the most training to help you succeed and continue to flair bartend.
If you are serious about flair bartending then the whole package is the best deal. If you are just interested in it, then maybe buying a series at a time would be the best. I wished that I had bought the whole package when I started, would have saved me some money. Ha! And when I started you could only buy on Video, now there are DVDs to choose from.

About the bottle blade I have always used a standard one, but I like the vinyl ones because they can have better colours that catch people's eye as well as it is softer in your hand when you twirl it around. The standard one is thiner without the vinyl and I can do more twirls with the standard one probably just because I use it more. Just pick one that you like and play with it. There is no right or wrong!
